MOTORISTS face a financial squeeze with car running costs set to rocket.

Sharp rises in fuel prices combined with yet another increase in insurance premium tax will leave drivers feeling the pinch next year, according to website BookMyGarage.

Boss Douglas Rotberg, who produced the graphic, right, said: “We’ve seen alarming headlines suggesting petrol could rise nine per cent in 2017 as a result of the OPEC deal.

rivers could be paying up to £5 more for a tank of petrol – which will be a significant hit for those who are struggling to make ends meet.

It paints a worrying picture

“In June, Insurance Premium Tax will leap by another two per cent to take it to 12 per cent, hitting the motorist in the pocket.

“And throw in the expected rise in inflation, it paints a worrying picture.”

Douglas launched BookMy Garage to help drivers shave costs from MoTs, services and repairs.

It gives drivers a real-time comparison of local garage prices simply by entering their car reg and post code. Garages are also reviewed.

Douglas said: “We’ve got the technology to help drivers save money on their MoTs and servicing – and they’ve never needed it more.”
