Learner drivers to be allowed on motorways from 2018

THE world of learning to drive is set for a shake-up over the next couple of years.

The biggest change sees learners allowed to drive on motorways in 2018.

The Government says the learners will have to be considered “competent”, be with a professional instructor and in a car with dual controls.

Currently you can’t drive on a motorway until you have passed your test.

The CBT – compulsory basic training for motorbike riders – is being tightened too. Novice riders will have to take a theory test, and anyone who racks up six points while riding on the CBT certificate (with L-plates) will have it revoked.
