ANT and Dec have won zillions of awards for I’m A Celeb, Takeaway and BGT.
But none as big as this . . . Suzuki Salesmen of the Year.
Well, they should be.
The Geordie duo’s Vitara telly ads have catapulted Suzuki to its best ever year.
Now the firm has another famous duo coming in 2017, Ignis and Swift. Two small car favourites rebooted.
First up, Ignis, because I’ve just driven the first one off the boat.
It’s quirky and bright and boxy and will be love/hate but it’s also light and clever and practical – and mega value.
This fully-loaded test car has 4WD, a 65mpg hybrid, 7in screen with Apple CarPlay, dual-camera auto emergency braking, even hill descent control – all for £13,500.
Even the not-so-basic basic Ignis at £10,500 has aircon, DAB, Bluetooth, electric front windows and six airbags.
Key facts: SUZUKI IGNIS 4x4
Engine: 1.2-litre hybrid
Road tax: Free
Rivals: Fiat Panda 4x4
Oddly, the cheaper car has five seats but the rest have four. That’s because they have wider individual rear seats which slide forward/back for more bootspace/leg room. I told you it was practical.
All big car stuff in a little box.
As I mentioned earlier, the Ignis is cooler, more Adidas than the fluffy-slippered Celerio. It’s even got three stripes down the side. But it has the same easy access and high-riding position as the Celerio. And it’s as cheap as chips to run too.
Now for the Swift. Suzuki’s best-selling car is getting a complete overhaul and will be revealed in March. It will be lighter, stronger, with better mpg, more leg and boot space and more customisation. Tailored Swift?
IGNIS VERDICT: Fresher than a box of Daz.
